SSRANZ and PBK Condemn Betrayal of Sarawak’s Oil & Gas Sovereignty
The so-called “Joint Declaration” between the Federal Government, PETRONAS, and the Sarawak Government is not a victory for Sarawak—it is its final surrender of Sarawak oil and gas rights.
This declaration is not a legally binding agreement. It changes nothing. It is nothing more than a political smokescreen to mislead the Sarawak public into believing that oil and gas rights have been “shared” or “settled,” when in reality, PETRONAS remains the legal owner, controller, and profiteer of Sarawak’s petroleum resources under the unconstitutional Petroleum Development Act 1974 (PDA74).
As the public outrage on social media shows, the people are not fooled. Sarawakians can clearly see that this backroom deal has only formalised Sarawak’s position as delivery boy to Malaya’s petroleum empire. PETROS is still a junior partner—purchasing gas from PETRONAS at prices set by PETRONAS, and redistributing it like a middleman, not an owner.
The entire process has been devoid of transparency, legislative consent, or legal due process. If this were a genuine settlement, it would have been tabled in the Sarawak State Assembly and backed by a repeal of PDA74, CSA66 and TSA2012—the three main colonial-era laws that unlawfully stripped Sarawak of its sovereign rights over its resources.
Instead, Sarawak is now made complicit in the very framework that robbed it.
The people can see clearly that:
• This is not cooperation. It is capitulation.
• This is not sovereignty. It is subjugation.
• This is not a partnership. It is political theatre.
We are witnessing the final consolidation of Malayan control over Sarawak’s resources, now cloaked in the language of “understanding” and “unity,” just in time for elections.
We call on the Sarawak Government and GPS coalition to answer:
* Why are you validating laws that your government once declared unconstitutional?
* Why are you allowing the betrayal of Sarawak’s resource sovereignty to be dressed up as a “win”?
* Why is there no move to repeal the PDA74 or to assert full legal jurisdiction over our continental shelf?
The truth is obvious: after 60 years of false federation, nothing has changed—except the packaging of continued exploitation.
Sarawakians must now decide:
Do we continue to live under a system where our land is stripped, our oil stolen, and our people lied to?
Or do we finally reclaim what was always ours—our dignity, our sovereignty, and our future?
This is not rebellion—it is restoration. This is not defiance—it is duty.
