KUCHING, April 23: PBK is advocating for stringent measures to handle those who have come in contact with Covid-19 patients but are reluctant to step forward to get tested.

According to Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan in a statement today, aggressive tracking of those who failed to surrender themselves for screening is required to address the situation.

“Those who disobey the order should be dragged for screening after expiry of the deadline given. After failing to get themselves screened before the expiry of deadline, they should, besides being dragged for screening and tests, be put under detention and be severely dealt with in accordance with the law,”  according to Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee Shan in a statement today.

He opined that the present movement control order (MCO) is “a war procedure in which all military strategies and procedures have to be followed and obeyed by the state and citizens”.

“There should not be any compromise, else, the fight against this unseen enemy will not succeed. “There cannot be half-hearted enforcement of the MCO. I have said before we need to study how and why China with such a huge population in Wuhan could do it. We need to learn from China and try to follow their procedures.

“We cannot allow lockdown to be loosened in places like Kota Sentosa, Kota Samaharan and Samariang. “It has been observed people in these areas are complacent and do not take seriously the danger of Covid-19. Being able to move around made them vulnerable to contract Covid19,” opined Voon.

On another Covid-19 related issue, Voon asserted it is wrong strategy to get nurses and medical staff to make masks and protective clothings for frontliners.
“Their job is to take care of Covid-19 victims, not to do these things. The task of making these masks and protective clothing should be done by private companies and individuals from home.”

On sanitisers which are in great demand, Voon suggested Sarawakians produce their own as they have the capability to do so. “We should produce our own sanitizers for which I believe we have the capability to do it.

After all it’s a mixture of 70 per cent alcohol and fragrances. “If New York in US could do it, so can we. If we have to wait for orders from China (to arrive), our fight against Covid-19 would fail. I also see no prospect of getting help from the federal government in fighting this war against Covid-19,” Voon added.
