Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) expresses deep concern over the recent shooting incident in Melaka involving law-enforcement personnel. The loss of life under circumstances that remain unclear has shocked the public and further eroded confidence in agencies entrusted with safeguarding the people.

 While PBK recognises the difficult and often dangerous situations faced by police, SPRM, customs officers, and other enforcement bodies, we firmly believe that the use of firearms must always comply with strict operational guidelines, adhere to principles of necessity and proportionality, and be subjected to transparent accountability.

 Incidents where individuals are fatally shot—especially when later justified solely through internal press releases or unverifiable claims—create grave public mistrust. When such actions occur in public spaces, the danger extends beyond the targeted individual and puts innocent bystanders at risk. The public has every right to expect clear, independent, and credible explanations whenever lethal force is used.

 PBK calls for:

 1. An independent and transparent investigation into the Melaka incident, free from internal influence from the agency involved.

 2. Immediate release of verifiable facts to prevent misinformation and ensure public confidence.

 3. Clear SOPs on the use of firearms to be made publicly accessible, with periodic reviews to ensure they meet international standards for lawful and proportionate use of force.

 4. Body-worn cameras and enhanced surveillance measures for enforcement operations, particularly those involving arrest attempts in public areas.

5. Mandatory inquests for all deaths resulting from enforcement actions, ensuring due process and justice for victims and families.

 Malaysia’s enforcement agencies must uphold the principle that every life is valuable and that lethal force is always the last resort. Any perception that fatal shootings can be justified without independent scrutiny is unacceptable in a democratic society.

PBK stands with all Malaysians who demand truth, transparency, and accountability. We urge the authorities to act swiftly and responsibly to restore public trust.
